Let me be clear, am not a doctor to do a surgery but by all possibilities i can undergo one. My turn came 15 days back. I had torn a ligament in my right knee which is called ACL. The incident happened on may 10th 2010 when i opted to play a football match for my deputed company General Electric at Bangalore. i postponed the surgery for two months only to worsen the condition. Finally i decided to get it operated at Chennai. I selected Bone and joint hospital at Anna nagar. All the doctors i consulted before told me surgery is the only option for getting my knee right and get back to sporting activities. i initially thought the surery would not be a complex one. People said Arthroscopy involves little incision. But overall my experience at the hospital after surgery turned to be a horrible one. Surgery took 3 hours and was in ICU for the rest of the day.
When i got back to consciousness it was intolerable pain for the first two days. At this point i should say why i got admitted to this hospital rather than the likes of Apollo, Miot etc. I have an inner fear about these big hospitals of making things complex, once i had the experience of seeing a person die even after donating lot of blood at Apollo. coming back to this hospital, the attention given to the patient was very poor. The AC dint work for the first three days, even after repeated complaints, it wasnt cleared before the 4 th day. Nurses showed little interest in attending if you call them or press the emergency calling bell. It was the house servicing people who showed more care i should say. one of them went to an extent of assisting me in taking tablets, i liked the slang he used, " onnu vittu oru naal daily intha mathraiya sapidunga" . The doctor who operated me finally came and checked me after two days. after so many disappointments i finally got discharged from hospital on 6 th day. its been two weeks and am still in bed rest. Post surery rehabilitation for this particular Ligament reconstruction will take 6 months.i got to regularly attend physiotherapist and it goes on and on and on. Finally my conclusion would be, it is rightly said " Prevention is better than Cure".. My dear makkale aalam theriyama kaala vudathinga. Noyetra vazhve kuraivatra selvam, even though your insurance takes care of bill settlement. best wishes.
